Criminal by Karin Slaughter
This is another re-read for me. Since catching up on all of the Karin Slaughter books I had missed by starting very late in her series I just decided to keep going to try to get current again. I actually won this book through Goodreads as an advanced reader copy and was so excited to win. I of course reviewed this book after reading it the first time but had forgotten quite a bit about this book. My original review can be read here.
After I started reading this for the second time I went back and read my first review. I gave this book 5 stars and I had no idea why. The story is all about these young working girls getting kidnapped and killed both in the 70's and in present day. The book starts out kind of slow and the constant change between 1975 and present day was really tiresome. Since both time periods have Amanda Wagner as one of the main characters it was tough to figure out when I was at times which just drove me nuts.
Half way through the book I realized why I gave this book 5 stars. For five other books we have heard about this torrid past of Will Trent but have never gotten any real information on what that is. This book finally gives us the answers I have been itching to know. The twist in the middle of the book was enough to skyrocket this book to one of my favorites.
After a good bit of deliberation and even though I had the same feelings when I first started this re-read as I did when I read it the first time I still give this book 5 out of 5 stars. For anyone who has read these books and has wondered why Will is such a dark troubled character this is the book you have been waiting for.
