Robyn Hood: Wanted Vol 2 by Patrick Shand
I have really enjoyed the Grimm Fairy Tale graphic novels. Some are hit and miss, but others like their take on Sleepy Hollow are pretty good. When I saw this one on NetGalley I had to give it a read. Now I am sorry I didn't read Vol 1 first.
This has an interesting twist to it. Of course the obvious twist is that Robin is actually Robyn, but the world of Sherwood Forest is another dimension. Robyn gets pulled into this other realm to save the people there. There is a bit of magic and almost supernatural themes in this book.
I liked this one. The artwork was pretty good, and the story really held my attention. Still I wish there was more to the plot, and I also wish I would have read the first volume. There were things referenced that I missed since I hadn't read it. The characters in this and the way the author brought his own twist to the classic tale of Robin Hood made this worth the read. I will have to try to find Vol 1 so I can fill in the holes, and if there is a vol 3 I will make sure to get a hold of that as well.
It seems for this one I don't have a lot to say, but I would recommend this to anyone who likes a good twist on classic tales. The graphic novel was put together well. I would give this 3 out of 5 stars. I wish the story was just a little bit better in some spots which would have made this a 4 star review.
I just started reading gn. was looking around netgalley and this one caught my eye. Will have to see if I can find the first one
ReplyDeleteI will too. This was pretty good and it peaked my interest. I hope you can read Vol 1 before this. Then you migh enjoy it more than I did because you know more about what is going on.
DeleteI didn't request this one because it is volume 2. Though I did try for that Wonder Woman one.... we'll see!!
ReplyDeleteI just saw today that my library signed up for Digital Comics. So I can just download comics on my ereader checking them out from the library. It doesn't have DC or Marvel (bummer) but they do have zenescope which is the publisher for this comic and the Grimm comics. They have all the Robin Hood comics available. You should see if your library has this. I guess the app is called Comics Plus Library Edition.
DeleteI had no idea this was the second volume until I read it.
DeleteThat is so cool. I really hope we get that soon. We have Zino for magazines and something for music downloads, but no digital comics. That is so exciting.
I also requested Wonder Woman and Justice League vol 4 but just got declined.
I liked this too. And I like Zenescope as well. Vol. 1 is great, it basically retells the commonly known Robin Hood tale to set the stage for this one, but of course with twists. One of my favourites is Jungle Book Vol. 1. I still have to read the next one. Zenescope can get pretty graphic with the violence and sexiness but I have to say it's my guilty little pleasure. I'll have to suggest the comic thing to my library too; it also has Zino.
DeleteI will have to find Vol 1 then. I have enjoyed the Grimm tales I've read so far.
