Star Wars: Dark Force Rising by Timothy Zahn

As I said in my review of the first book in this trilogy, Heir to the Empire, I have been caught up in the Star Wars Hype. Though sadly I still haven't seen The Force Awakens. I have already pre-ordered the movie on iTunes so I will have it on April 1st and as soon as it comes to the dollar show by me I am going to take my son and we will see it in the theater because I have seen all of the others in the theater I can't break that tradition now.

I really liked the first book and was kind of surprised at that. I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars but I got excited about the movie. I didn't expect to like the first book as much as I did but with this one I didn't know what to expect. Empire Strikes Back was awesome with some of the best action sequences and story reveals that are now legend. I really tried to not get my hopes up that this was going to bee the same but I was a little let down.

This is clearly a middle of the trilogy book. Not much happens and there really aren't any new revelations that shock the reader to their core. There is a pretty good space battle towards the end but otherwise it is just another mile in the road. The story is decent enough that I kept going and looked forward to picking up the book again, but I wanted more. The more I think about this book, the more I feel like this was just unnecessary. I felt like the author knew he was supposed to  write a trilogy but only had enough great material for two and a half books so this just got drawn out.

I think what I liked about this book was just more of my favorite characters. It was familiar and what really drew me to read these books. This wasn't a bad book by any means and I did enjoy it even being a little flat. I am still glad I read this but I hope the last book in this trilogy is just amazing. I give this book 3 out of 5 stars

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice

I couldn't wait to see this movie. I usually don't go opening weekend because I tend to avoid the big crows and enjoy a quieter theater. Thank God for reserved seating. I have waited a very long time for this movie and I couldn't wait any longer. My emotions have gone up and down on this roller coaster DC has taken us on leading up to this movie and I am at a loss for words as to how to describe this movie. I will begin by saying that DC Comics has not let me down.

I had so many doubts about this movie and was afraid of a George Clooney situation when I heard Ben Affleck was going to be Batman. So many critics didn't like Man of Steel and it seems that most those reviews didn't like the movie because of Zack Snyder. I loved Man of Steel and had every ounce of faith that Zack Snyder wouldn't let me down. I also heard that my favorite comic book writer Geoff Johns was a consultant on the movie which gave me confidence that DC was going to take a bigger part in the making of this movie and not leave it up to screen writers who want to make a name for themselves and a director who wants to make Gotham look neon.

I loved this movie, I was blown away and wish I could go back tomorrow and watch this again and again. I checked iTunes and sadly they have not posted the movie for Pre-order but I'm guessing that is because of the rumors or an R rated directors cut coming out. I will of course have to make sure I get the theatrical and Directors cut. There is so much already in this movie I can't imagine what else could be added back in. I really don't know what to say about this movie. I don't want to spoil anything so I will say just go see this, and yet there are so many things I want to talk about that I loved.

Here are the highlights, Ben Affleck was amazing as Batman and he is a good choice to follow Christian Bale in the Bat Mantel. The best part of the movie of course is the appearance of Wonder Woman on the big screen for the first time. Gal Gadot was absolutely the best choice to play Wonder Woman. When she shows up in full garb as Wonder Woman I had goosebumps everywhere and my Wife almost flew out of her seat in excitement. I can't wait for her movie next year. I have always been a fan of Wonder Woman and being able to see a feature film finally is exciting. I also loved the little glimpses we get into the next few characters. Aquaman, and Cyborg were really cool to see finally in the flesh.

Some of the things I didn't care for were the Wayne death scene which seems to find it's way into every Batman movie they can. The Actors who played Thomas and Martha Wayne are great and my wife and I felt were some pretty big names for such a short scene. The beginning of the movie did struggle a bit to get going and it took longer than I liked to set up the reason Batman and Superman didn't like each other. Also as much as it pains me, I didn't like the Flash. I'm not a fan of Ezra Miller at all and I was upset to hear he was cast. He looks nothing like Barry Allen should and Scenes that he is in in this movie thankfully are short but it was the only time during the movie I crossed my arms and sighed. I really hope the Flash gets better once trailers start coming out otherwise I might take a pass on it. The CW has done an amazing job with the show I think it will be hard to live up to what has already been established.

I usually avoid all reviews about a movie I want to see until I see it but this one I poured over all of the reviews I could find. The critics don't seem to like it but then again critics seem to hate everything. The fans seem to like it and that's all that matters. I have read some good ones, some bad ones and some that put this movie right in the middle. I am going to rate this easily 5 out of 5 stars. I love this movie and already can't wait to see this again.
